Ammonia Cracking Unit

PSG Engineering Company Ammonia Cracking Unit (ACU) is an industrial gas generator designed to convert liquid ammonia (NH₃) into a mixture of hydrogen (H₂) and nitrogen (N₂) gases. The resulting gas mixture is primarily used to create a reducing atmosphere in heat treating, brazing, annealing, and sintering furnaces. Typically, the gas composition is 75% hydrogen and 25% nitrogen, making it safe and effective for metallurgical processes.

Working Principle: – The liquid ammonia is first vaporized and then passed through a high-temperature retort furnace containing a nickel-based catalyst. At temperatures of 850–950°C, ammonia decomposes according to the reaction:
